When I sit down to create new work, one of my goals is to create artwork that evokes connection. Today, I am so excited to give you a peek behind the scenes at six of my newest original watercolor pieces—and share how their intricate detail and rich colors translate onto our boxed notecards.
Each piece comes as a boxed set of 10 blank cards, printed on heavyweight cotton stock that is small-batch printed & hand-packaged. Housed in a giftable box with eco-friendly recycled kraft envelopes, these blank cards are ready for writing thank-you notes, offering sympathy, sending encouragement, or giving a thoughtful gift to someone you love.
Here is the story behind some of our newest pieces!
1. Hummingbird & Foxglove
The Story Behind the Art
I have a deep love for hummingbirds—I think they are absolutely beautiful, fascinating, and full of grace. To me, hummingbirds represent pure joy. When I was designing this piece, pairing the hummingbird with the foxglove felt like a natural match. The vibrant, soft pinks & purples of the foxglove created the perfect garden backdrop for such a delicate bird.
Because hummingbirds represent joy and light, this set has quickly become a customer favorite. Whether you are writing a birthday wish, sending a warm "thinking of you" note, or writing a heartfelt thank-you, your recipient is sure to love it.
2. The Great Blue Heron
The Story Behind the Art
Blue Herons have always held a personal meaning for me, but this painting came out of a deeply pivotal moment. Last year, while in Memphis, TN for a show, I was sitting in a really heavy space—both personally and with the business. I felt like I knew what I needed to do: burn down 80% of the business I had worked so hard to build so I could prioritize being present with my family. But I was terrified and unsure if it was the right move.
I asked for a sign and went to walk around a local lake. While I walked, a Blue Heron followed me around the water. I took it as a sign that I needed to step out in both fear and faith. Not to mention, collectors had been asking me to paint a heron for years!
The subtle blues, grays, and feathers print beautifully on our notecards. The Blue Heron artwork carries a sense of calm, making it a comforting choice for sympathy notes, encouragement letters, or gentle hellos.
3. The Pacific Octopus
The Story Behind the Art
A while back, I had the incredible experience of seeing an octopus in the wild while visiting Mexico. It was truly majestic—there is nothing quite like the way they move through the water. While the octopus I saw wasn't a Pacific Octopus, I became captivated by the incredible, rich coloring of the Pacific species and knew I had to bring their coloring to life on watercolor paper.
The deep, rich pigments of the octopus render beautifully on our cotton stock. If you have coastal roots, love ocean life, or simply want stationery that feels unique and artistic, this set stands out instantly. It makes a stunning gift for stationery lovers who appreciate something beyond standard florals.
4. The North Carolina Lighthouse Collection
The Story Behind the Art
Coastal North Carolina has always been my home away from home. My lighthouse collection really took off after the St. Simons Lighthouse in Georgia reached out to me for custom work, and painting the NC collection felt like the next right thing. I am hoping to create Lighthouse artwork for other states in the near future.
Lighthouses carry a special place in people's hearts—they represent history, steady guidance, and a beacon of light during dark times. These cards are perfect for vacationers looking to send a piece of their coastal getaway home, transplants keeping their roots close, and they make the best North Carolina themed gift!
5. Male & Female Cardinal
The Story Behind the Art
So many of my collectors buy my art as a way to honor someone who has passed away. Cardinals are famous symbols of love, memory, and spiritual connection. I specifically wanted to paint both the vibrant red male cardinal and the soft, brown female cardinal together to represent parental figures, couples, and loved ones who hold a permanent place in our hearts.
This set is frequently chosen for sympathy and remembrance notes, but its warm, winter-friendly palette also makes it a lovely choice for holiday greetings and everyday keepsakes.
6. Doe & Fawn
The Story Behind the Art
There is a quiet, gentle sweetness in nature that I wanted to capture with this painting. The bond between a mother deer and her fawn represents unconditional, motherly love in its purest form. Painting the soft textures of their coats and their gentle posture was a peaceful experience in the studio.
Because of its gentle focus on family, the Doe & Fawn card set is a favorite for baby shower thank-yous, Mother’s Day cards, and baby announcement notes. Crucially, it has also become a deeply meaningful memorial piece for those honoring their mother or for parents remembering a child.
