A handwritten thank you note can be one of the most powerful gestures of all. They’re inexpensive, easy to write, and make people feel special that you spent time and thought on them. But when “Thank You” just isn’t enough, how do you write a thank you note?

Parts of a Thank You Note

Though short and sweet, there are a few key parts of a thank you note:

  • The greeting
  • The body
  • The closing
  • The stationery

Combined, these elements help you get not only your message across, but also the sentiment.

The greeting should include your recipient’s name and some form of welcome. It doesn’t have to be overly formal, especially if it’s to a person you know well.

In the body, thank the person and add any specific details about why you’re sending the note, usually 3-4 sentences. Maybe you received a gift, or someone volunteered to help you, for example. Whatever is it, this is your chance to make your note truly personal.

Close with your regards and name. Include a PS message at the end if you have something to share that doesn’t have to do with your thank you message.

Love these note cards! I buy them as Hostess gifts or as just a special thank you to someone. I also send them to my own customers as a thank you but using a product for another small business!
