One of the most common questions we get from collectors is, "What size print should I buy for my wall?"

Choosing art for your home should be exciting, but staring at a blank wall can quickly turn into decision fatigue. If a print is too small, it can feel lost in the space; if it’s too large, it can overwhelm the room.

Whether you’re decorating a small bathroom, creating a living room gallery wall, or adding some color to a bedroom, here is a practical room-by-room guide to choosing the perfect art print sizes and framing options for your home.

To start, here is a quick overview of our standard sizes and how they function in various room types:

  • 5x7 Prints: Perfect for small nooks, styled bookshelves, floating shelves, or as part of a multi-piece gallery wall.

  • 8x10 Prints: Our most versatile size. Ideal for entryways, guest bathrooms, bedside tables, or paired in sets of two or three.

  • 11x14 Prints: A classic standalone size that makes a statement in bedrooms, kitchens, and hallway walls without requiring a massive footprint. Can be used as an "anchor piece" in gallery walls.

  • 16x20 Fine Art Prints & Canvases: Ideal focal pieces for above a couch, bed, mantle, or console table. Can be used as an "anchor piece" in gallery walls.

💡 Fine Art Print vs. Canvas: We offer all of our designs as both unframed and professionally framed Fine Art Prints and Gallery Wrapped Canvases. All of our fine art and canvas prints are museum-quality and archival, and 100% Made in America.

Mat vs. No Mat:

When it comes to framing unframed prints, whether you use a mat board is a personal design choice! However, if you ask me, I personally LOVE a matted frame.

Adding a mat draws the eye directly into the artwork.

  • Framing Fine Art Prints: If you choose our custom framed fine art prints, they are framed with a 2-inch bright white mat that adds breathing room around the fine art print. If you are buying your own frame off the shelf, buying a larger frame with a mat (e.g., placing an 8x10 print inside an 11x14 matted frame) creates a gorgeous, elevated look.

  • Framing Canvases: Our custom-framed canvases are nestled inside a 1.5-inch wooden floater frame, giving the canvas the appearance of floating inside the frame for a clean, modern art gallery feel.

  • Budget-Friendly Off-the-Shelf Frames: If you prefer to frame your unframed prints yourself on a budget, places like IKEA, Wayfair, Target, and Pottery Barn have fantastic, affordable options with built-in mats! I personally source many of my own home frames from IKEA and Wayfair.

Room-by-Room Sizing Guide

1. The Bathroom & Powder Room

Bathrooms often have limited wall space due to mirrors, towel bars, and vanity lighting, making them ideal places for intimate, detailed art.

  • Best Sizes: Single 8x10 prints or a vertical pair of 5x7 prints.

  • Styling Tip: If you love the ocean, a powder room is the perfect spot to show off your coastal style! Hang a fine art print featuring sea life or beachy botanical palettes next to a vanity mirror to create a fun coastal vibe!

2. The Bedroom

Your bedroom should feel like a serene, personal retreat. Wall space above the bed or dressers usually calls for larger-scale art or curated groupings.

  • Best Sizes: A central 16x20 Canvas or Fine Art Print above a low dresser, or a pair of 11x14 prints hung side-by-side above a headboard.

  • Styling Tip: Nature themes bring quiet tranquility to sleeping spaces. For lake lovers or anyone who finds peace near the water, our Blue Heron print creates a calm, elegant focal point above a nightstand or headboard.

3. The Living Room

Living rooms feature your largest furniture pieces, which means small art can easily get swallowed up on a main living room wall.

  • Best Sizes: A 16x20 framed canvas as a standalone statement over a mantle, or a 3-to-4 piece gallery wall using 8x10 or 11x14 prints.

  • Styling Tip: Build a family story wall! Group State Floral Map prints together representing the states where you were born, where you got married, or where your family has lived to turn your living room wall into a meaningful conversation starter.
