Finding the perfect piece of art for your home should be fun, but I see so many people get stuck or make a few easy-to-fix slip-ups when hanging their pieces. If your space feels just a little "off" and you can't figure out why, trust me, it's usually one of these three things!
Here is what to look out for and how to fix them so your walls actually look intentional:
1. Hanging it way too high This is easily the #1 mistake I see! People tend to float their art way up near the ceiling, which totally disconnects the piece from the rest of the room. When your art is floating in space, it draws the eye up to empty wall space instead of grounding your furniture.

The Easy Fix: Aim for eye level. A great rule of thumb is hanging the center of your piece about 57 to 60 inches from the floor. And if you're hanging art directly over a sofa, bed, or console table? Leave just 6 to 8 inches of breathing room between the bottom of the frame and the top of the furniture. You want the art to feel visually anchored to the piece below it, not like it’s trying to escape!
2. Going way too small for the space This can be tricky, but scale is everything! A tiny 8x10 print floating alone on a giant living room wall ends up looking lost and accidental instead of like a intentional focal point.

The Easy Fix: Go bigger than you think you need! If you fall in love with a smaller print, don't worry—just group it with other smaller pieces to build out a gallery wall, or pair it with a massive mat and a larger frame. If you’re hanging art above a couch or headboard, the total width of your artwork (or frame grouping) should take up about two-thirds to three-quarters of the overall width of the furniture below it.
3. Treating frames as an afterthought It is so easy to spend all your time picking the art and then just grab whatever cheap frame is nearby, but frame choice completely changes the energy of a print! Choosing a frame that clashes with your room's vibe, or picking a flimsy frame that distracts from the art, can totally ruin the overall look.
