All 50 states + Puerto Rico Notepads - They’re all here! We have released both desk and refrigerator notepads for all 50 of Amanda’s state flower designs + Puerto Rico. These are gonna make GREAT Christmas gifts!
The Best Tote Ever - We cannot stop gushing about our custom-designed tote, but more importantly, we can’t THANK YOU enough for your orders! We really put a lot of planning into these beautiful and functional bags and we’re so honored that y’all love them as much as we do.
Fall Cleaning - New products means more inventory which means we need to cram even more stuff into our workspace. We spent several days building shelves and reorganizing to make room for all the new notepads and totes (and we launched our first ever mystery box to help clear out older inventory, which sold our very quickly!). WE absolutely love our studio+warehouse but it won’t be long before we outgrow it and that is all thanks to our AMAZING customers.
New Art - The countries are coming! Amanda has been working diligently on painting various countries around the world in her signature wildflower design. Which country do you most want to get your hands on?
Holiday planning - Believe it or not, it’s time to start planning for the upcoming holidays. We can’t WAIT for you to see what we have for you this year. We are ready to put on our elf hats and get to work!
Once again, thank you all for supporting our small business. We are so fortunate to have such great customers that make it possible for us to do what we do. We love our jobs and we couldn’t do it without you!
The new tote bags are (almost) here! The new tote bags are (almost) here! And we are over the moon with excitement to share them with you. It took lots of collaboration, as well as some trial and error, but we think we’ve come up with a tote to write home about. Our new totes are made of super high-quality canvas fabric and they are FULL of pockets! We tested the handles ourselves to be sure they were the right length and we went with the box-shape for maximum space. Keep reading to find out about our top 6 suggestions for using what we think is the Best Tote Ever!
Our totes are currently available in 6 of our most popular designs but there are more to come! We truly wanted to make them as functional as they are pretty and we hope you love them (and the pockets!) as much as we do.
The good news is that all of our prints are the standard frame sizes of 5" x 7", 8" x 10", and 11" x 14", which means that you can find a frame you love and most major retailers! The one we used for this tutorial came from Michaels. (View our blog post, here, for more framing suggestions!)
I wanted to frame an 8" x 10" Alabama print with a mat, which is why I selected a pre-matted 11" x 14" frame. Make sure to always check the packaging to see the frame size with a mat and without a mat. This frame fits an 11" x 14" print without a mat or a 8" x 10" print with a mat.
(1) Make sure to inspect the glass & frame edges to ensure there isn't any smudges that need to be cleaned prior to framing. I usually check both the inside and outside of the glass and use traditional glass cleaner if cleaning is needed.
(2) Once you're happy with the way the frame & glass looks, open it up!
In June, we launched our eye-catching and versatile melamine plates. These are a perfect option for picnics and parties, as well as everyday use. We’d love to see your table-settings using our plates - email us your pictures or hit us up on social media!
Also in June, Amanda flew to Dallas for the Dallas Market. This is a BIG deal because we're officially in a SHOWROOM! For makers like us, it's a big deal. Think of it like this: your favorite boutique buys items they love from various makers across the USA. Most often, stores go to "market" 1-2x a year to shop. One of the biggest honors a maker (like us!) can receive is to be selected to be part of a showroom so that stores can shop our products (for their store!) throughout the entire year. And some really big news: Atlanta and Vegas are happening next!
In July, we had our second annual 4th of July sale and thanks to all of you, it was HUGE! We seriously couldn’t be more grateful for all the orders y’all placed with us during the sale. As you might already know, some of us here in the studio are wrapping + packaging nerds and we LOVED getting all these orders out to you. We really hope you enjoyed opening them as much as we loved prepping them for you!
Also in July, we introduced several new notepad designs based on popular demand, including Blue Crab, Monarch Butterfly, Dragonfly, and Horse. Our refrigerator pads and desk pads have been extremely popular and we can’t help but thank you again for your help in designing these. As Amanda often says, “You HAVE to listen to your customers!” We put the question out there on social media and y’all answered. Our notepads were truly a joint venture between YOU and US and we loved the process of designing them exactly the way you wanted them.
Speaking of notepads, we have some new designs heading your way. Next up are Missouri and Oregon and maybe a surprise or two (towels too!). We ALWAYS want to hear what y’all want us to do next so please reach out to us and let us know your thoughts!
Finally, our most exciting news (at least as far as we’re concerned) - TOTE. BAGS. Now, we know y’all love the free tote bags that we send with every $100 order, but we’ve stepped up our game and designed a tote bag that is both beautiful and functional. Multiple inside pockets + perfectly sized handles + Amanda’s designs = a bag you can’t live without. We got to try out the samples of these bags and I’m telling you, you’re going to love them.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we have to say once again how much we appreciate all of YOU. It’s because of you that we get to do what we do. We love being here in the studio and we love making y’all happy. Stay safe, stay cool, and let us know what else you’d like to see coming out of Amanda Klein Company!
With love and gratitude,
Amanda, Tori, and April
]]>When we talk about gifting, we’re not just talking about hostess, wedding, and birthday gifts. We are also talking about gifts for yourself! As any Parks and Recreation fan knows, you need to, “Treat. Yo’. Self.” We’ve come up with a list of our favorite ideas for treating yourself or anyone else you may want to delight.
At some point in our lives we all seem to be asked the classic question, “Beach or mountains?” If you are one of those folks who emphatically answers, “Beach!” - then our Coastal Decor collection is perfect for you! Whether you want to add some themed decor to your beach house, or you just want to surround yourself at home with reminders of your happy place, our seaside selections will surely fit the bill.
One of our favorite ways to gift is by wrapping a special item in a flour sack towel - it’s eye-catching, sustainable, and a gift in and of itself. Try wrapping a bottle of crisp, refreshing white wine in one of our Blue Crab or Anchor towels, or perhaps a fruity, red sangria in our Lobster/Crawfish towel.
Our coastal collection also includes pillows, notecards, prints, and waterproof stickers. In addition, we’ve gradually been adding new designs to this collection including a fish and an alligator. Let us know which coastal creature or symbol is your favorite!
What better way to enjoy the long, hot days of summer than with a cool drink? We think our fruit collection is the perfect opportunity to create a unique and thoughtful gift that will quench anyone’s thirst. Not only can you put together everything to make a delicious batch of lemonade, you can include some of our other fruity designs for an even more colorful and delicious gift. You'll be the hero of any gathering if you show up with a lemon-themed gift, sure to get your mouth watering. Keep scrolling for our recipe for Sparkling Lemonade, or click here to see how we put this gift jar together!
Summer is peak gardening season and whether you are an amateur or an expert chef, fresh herbs always add an extra flair to many savory (and sometimes sweet) dishes. Not only are fresh herbs bursting with lively flavors, they are beautiful in their vibrant colors and textures. If you or someone you know loves to use fresh herbs or would like to start, consider putting together a special gift with our exquisite Herb Flour Sack towel. We recommend wrapping some rustic wooden spoons along with a bundle of fresh herbs, tied with a cloth or burlap ribbon.
Although there is something to love about every season, summer always seems to be the most fleeting. Our coastal-themed items are the perfect way to treat yo' self, celebrate the long, lazy days of summer, and keep you in the summertime frame of mind all year round.

]]>This year, we kicked off our first ever gift box for Mother's Day and it was a huge hit! Having never done a gift box before, we had to figure out how create, pack, ship, & get them to Mama on time. And judging by the number of kind messages we received (seriously, we're crying over here), our customers loved them too. Want to see us in action? check out our recap video here.
In the midst of planning for Mother's Day, we added the much anticipated notepads to our website at the end of April & these have been flying off the shelves so quickly that we had to place another large order. If you missed out on your favorite, more are coming! If you missed it, be sure to check out our very own April Moate's previous blogpost with tips to write a great grocery shopping list here: https://amandakleinco.com/blogs/those-artsy-things/easily-write-a-perfect-grocery-list
And we finally received our melamine plates! Truly, finally. These plates were ordered at the end of 2022 and allthedelaysandthings had them not arriving to us until mid-May. But, they're here! And they're gorgeous! Yay! We're releasing them on June 12th, aaannddd.....we might be doing a giveaway, so hop on over to our Facebook or Instagram page and make sure you're following along.
"What about new art?" you might be asking. We have that coming, too! Flour Sack towels will soon be available for Maine, Kansas, Maryland and our brand new (delightfully fresh) Herb design (which might just be Amanda's new fave).
What else are we working on? DID YOU SEE OUR NEW TOTE BAGS?! Yes, tote bags. Coming September 2023. Custom designed by 3 moms with all the pockets and fun designs.
And speaking of tote bags. And free swag. All orders over $100 purchased on amandakleinco.com get a free honeybee tote! Woohoo!
As for the business side of things, we attend various trade shows throughout the USA, but SURTEX was a first for us. And it was in NYC, which was another first! We met with some pretty large companies about doing custom design work, and let's just say that we can't wait to share some pretty big news in the future (wink, wink).
Truly, y'all. We love you. If it wasn't for you we wouldn't be here. There are so many days that I can't believe this is my real life, and this business is a huge part of it -- thank you, thank you, thank you!
If you ever have any questions, we are here to help! hello@amandakleinco.com

]]>One of my favorite old sayings is, “A stitch in time saves nine” and I can’t think of any other time that this is more applicable than with grocery shopping. We’ve all been there - you go to the grocery store without a list and you end up spending twice as much as you planned AND you still forget something that you needed. Not to mention the fact that with our busy lives and with products moving and changing constantly, grocery shopping can be overwhelming and time consuming. While there are plenty of ways to make a digital grocery list, if you are like me, you prefer the old-fashioned way of handwriting a list to guide you through your shopping trip. There’s just something so satisfying about having that paper list in your hand and crossing things off as you go.
Step one to planning any grocery store trip is to do a little research on current deals and ways to save money. There are a number of resources available, including grocery rebate apps and digital coupons. The first place I tend to look is the store flyer. Although I still prefer the paper version, these aren’t as easy to find as they used to be. I miss the days of sipping my coffee and perusing the Sunday paper or the Wednesday supplement for all the upcoming sales. These days, even if some stores still produce a physical sale paper, they all have a digital version online. While I find it impossible to find every item my family wants on sale, I do my best to balance their requests for items that might be full-price with the best deals available on other items.
Step two to making your grocery list is to check what you have on-hand. I’m sure I can speak for most of us when I say that I have an overabundance of some particular items in my pantry or freezer. I recently had to dispose of several boxes of waffles that were so freezer-burned that they were virtually unrecognizable. Some of this comes from my child wanting only strawberry waffles this week and next week refusing to eat anything but cinnamon waffles, but mostly it’s from those times that I strayed from my list and bought something that I only thought I needed. Checking your current inventory is the best way to avoid over-buying on any particular item.
Once you’ve had a chance to check the sales and see what you already have in the pantry and freezer, it’s time to move on to making your actual list. I have found that there are three ways to make a grocery list - by department, by aisle, or by meal plan. I have used each of these methods depending on my needs at the time and my familiarity with the particular store where I’m planning to shop. You can choose a list-making method based on your level of grocery shopping expertise. Making an efficient grocery list does take a little time up front but in the end, it will be worth it to get you in and out of the grocery store as quickly as possible.
Making a grocery list by department (for the beginner)...
Making a grocery list by aisle (for the veteran shopper)...
Making a grocery list by meal plan (for the planner)...

]]>If you're like us we have had an especially cold winter, and I think it’s safe to say that we are all more than ready for brighter days! As we get closer to Spring and prepare to come out of hibernation, we are likely to find ourselves being a bit more social - birthday parties, baby showers, dinner parties, etc. If you are like me, then you hate to show up empty-handed, especially at any get-together at someone’s home. Even if I’m just visiting a friend or even my mom, I love to bring gifts! Lucky for me, I work in a place where I have easy access to beautiful, unique gifts. Lucky for you, you have easy access to them as well!
Not only do Amanda Klein Co. products make great host or hostess gifts in their own right, we have come up with several fun and creative ways to make our products even more fun and special. Keep scrolling to see some of our suggestions!
Want to keep it simple? Our note cards are ready to gift! Make them even more special by wrapping them in one of our colorful flour sack towels.
Bringing wine to a dinner party? Personalize it by wrapping your gift in a flour sack print that you know your host or hostess would love.
We hope some of these ideas can make your life a bit easier when attending a get-together or visiting a friend. We truly appreciate the support of all of our customers!
With love and gratitude,
April & the entire Amanda Klein Co. Team
Hello, friends! It’s been just about a week since the launch of our new flour sack towel prints and we have two words for you - THANK YOU! While we certainly hoped for a successful launch, we were amazed at your response. We are such big fans of our high-quality towels and we’re so pleased that y’all love them as much as we do. What was our biggest seller? Blue Crab! This vibrant little guy (Amanda’s personal favorite among the new prints) was a huge hit. We still have quite a few left but we’ve been burning through our stock like crazy, so if you don’t want to wait for our next restock in April or May, then order yours now. Whether you are purchasing for yourself, a friend, a beach house, or just to brighten up your kitchen with some beautiful hues, you will not be disappointed!
Coming in second in the new towel launch was our lovely Magnolia. Native to the Southeastern United States, the Magnolia serves as the state flower of Mississippi, but is cultivated throughout the world. These gorgeous blooms signify many things to many people, but generally are thought to bring luck and stability. What does the Magnolia mean to you? Leave us a comment and let us know!
Believe it or not, January 2023 is already over. That means we are quickly approaching February’s most iconic day - Valentine’s Day! Not a fan of Valentine’s Day? We hear you. Traditionally, this day has been a time to celebrate romantic love but over the years, we’ve seen it evolve to celebrate ALL love and that’s something we can definitely get behind. Let your best friend, your mom, your son or daughter, or even a co-worker know how much they mean to you with one of our state or animal prints! Originally hand-painted in-studio by Amanda, our prints are reproduced in multiple sizes on heavy cotton paper. They make great gifts for anyone (including yourself!).
As I mentioned in our last blog post, Amanda has been diligently working on producing new art and new products. As someone whose only drawing talent is stick-figures, I’m constantly amazed at Amanda’s process. I love seeing her projects come together and I find her eye for colors to be pure magic. My favorite works are her animals, particularly the Cat, the Llama, and the Yorkie. While I love ALL her animals, these ones especially seem to capture the essence of each animal perfectly - the playful cat, the whimsical llama, the inquisitive Yorkie. What is your favorite animal? What animals or products would you like to see next from Amanda Klein Co.? Leave us a comment and let us know! We can’t promise to produce everyone’s favorite but we couldn’t do this without YOU and we want to know what makes you happy.
Thank you all again for all of your support!
With love and gratitude,
Amanda, Tori, and April
Hello and Happy New Year! We hope that all of you have had a wonderful holiday season full of peace and love. Holidays can be as stressful as they are delightful, and while it may feel a bit melancholy to take down that last ornament, it’s always a bit of a relief to return to life as “normal”. We had a terrific holiday season here in the Amanda Klein Co. studio and we are SO grateful to all of our customers. We could not realize this dream without each of you and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you are curious as to what we have been up to (besides packing and shipping your orders), then please read on!
In order for any business to grow, the people behind that business have to be willing to take some calculated risks. We have big dreams in mind for where Amanda Klein Co. will go and what we can do for our community. With that in mind, we are looking to make 2023 a year to remember. That means NEW products, NEW designs, and NEW relationships. Today, we’re here to announce the release of our newest towel designs! Starting on January 24th, we will offer additional designs with the same great quality as our previous towels. What makes our new towels so different? Fruits! Veggies! Magnolias! Not to mention these towels will feature edge-to-edge printing as well as some with full background color. What better way to beat the winter blues than by adding some color to your life? Our personal favorite is the garden veggie design, featuring a variety of vegetables, including a southern favorite - okra! The Garden Vegetable design was inspired by Amanda's grandmother (who is about to turn 100!) and her love for gardening.
Speaking of the New Year, did you know that January 22nd starts the beginning of the Lunar New Year celebrations? Tied to the Lunar calendar, Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean communities, but is also celebrated throughout the world. Each year, the Lunar calendar is represented by one of the 12 zodiac animals and this year just so happens to be the Year of the Rabbit! We are thrilled to celebrate our own Rabbit, beautifully rendered in pastel watercolors, available in prints and notecards. This little bunny is the perfect way to celebrate Lunar New Year, Easter, or just the approaching arrival of Spring in our part of the world.
Stay tuned to this space for more announcements about new products coming in 2023! We are so happy to be on this journey and we can’t thank you all enough for your continued support.
With love,
Amanda, Tori, and April

We spent much of June preparing for Dallas Market (pictured above) and Atlanta Market (happening next week). Each show requires a ton of prep work -- from designing our booth to prepping product to creating sales sheets to booking travel and doing allllllllll the mom things in between, Tori and I are still kinda exhausted. We love it though. It's the kindness of our customers and love from our families that keep us going strong.
Our flour sack towels have continued to be a big hit! We're currently sold out of a lot of designs but will be fully restocked in August with several new designs being released then too (sneak peak below!)! Yay!
We're beyond thankful to now be in over 400 stores nationwide (it truly blows our mind!). Small-business is so important to our USA economy -- we appreciate each and every purchase that is made, and we can assure you your local brick-and-mortar store will too.
What else is going on? Lots of lots of loving on our families and trying to soak in all that's left of this Alabama summer. 💛

More people are looking for reusable bags to help them carry their everyday items—and a tote bag can carry more than most. Using our towels, you can easily create your very own bag for transporting groceries, carrying gear to the pool, or just holding your daily essentials.
Baked goods are a wonderful treat, but we humans aren’t the only ones who think so. Keeping baked goods covered is very important, especially during certain seasons. Wrapping your baked goods in our towels can be good for keeping them protected against the elements or just making them look extra nice if you give them away as a gift!
There are several times a year when we find ourselves needing to wrap presents. Be it for Christmas, a wedding, or someone’s birthday, having nice wrapping paper can show you care. Make your gift extra special by wrapping it with reusable multipurpose towels instead.
Pillows are a household staple whether you’re going to sleep for the night or looking to add a new pop of color to your living room sofa. Our towels offer various designs that can suit any style, making them the perfect option to create your very own pillow using our materials.
Fabric art has been around for hundreds of years, and it isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Our art designs come in different colors, styles, and shades. If you find yourself swooning over one of our designs, why not make it a permanent feature in your home instead?
Accidents happen, and having a first aid kit can make a huge difference. Adding sturdy and absorbent fabric to your first aid kit can be beneficial in the event of bleeding—or if you just need to keep your materials clean.
Whether you are riding a motorcycle or visiting somewhere that gets cold and windy during winter, protecting your face against the elements is very important. Fortunately, our kitchen towels are the perfect size to make a simple face mask with a great design.
Tablecloths are another household essential that can easily be made using different fabrics and patterns—like a set of our towels. You can easily sew different towels together to make a completely unique tablecloth that your guests will love.
Aprons are a wonderful tool for helping us to stay clean while we cook, but they are even better when you customize them. You can add our tea towels to your apron’s design—or make an apron from scratch using our materials. No matter what, you get a completely original apron!
When the sun is high in the sky, it is almost too easy for cars to get hot. A windshield cover can keep your car cool and protect your dashboard at the same time. With a little material and a few clips, you can easily create a stunning one-of-a-kind windshield cover for your car.
]]>Our biggest studio news this April is that WE'RE MOVING! 🎉 Amanda Klein Co. will have a new home as of next week and we couldn't be more proud and thankful. We have turned half of my house into a full working studio/shipping center/warehouse, and with us bringing home our precious baby boy last December, we realized that running an e-commerce business from home was no longer a good idea.
After much looking and negotiating, we found the perfect space with lots of natural light just 8 miles down the road in Pelham, AL. Bonus: it's just outside of my favorite Alabama state park. We're hoping to be fully operating at our new location by next Wednesday, April 27th.
State flour sack towel series, here.
JUNE: Inspired by my precious son (can you tell how crazy I am about him? He's only been mentioned 3 times so far -- ha!) -- we'll be releasing 3 different sets of nursery prints, all different colors and animals.
AUGUST: Empowerment Print Series -- get ready y'all, I'm so excited about this one and can't wait to share details soon!
SEPTEMBER: All. Things. Holiday. 🎄
OCTOBER: Breast Cancer Awareness Series. This one is just extra special to us for so many reasons. 💗💗💗
As always, thank you for all of your support and encouragement and blessings. We are so thankful for each of you.
xoxo,
Amanda & team

Got a special place you love to visit? Turn it into a piece of wall art with a beautiful map print. It can be a map of a city, a theme park, your alma mater, or even a zoomed-out view of your favorite road trip. We love this DIY version by Bless'er House!
The value of a handwritten note only grows over time. Treat it like the one-of-a-kind piece of art that it is by framing and preserving it.
Fabric is a powerful tool for adding color, depth, or texture to any room. Most people choose throw pillows or blankets to do the trick. But if you find a perfect pattern, you can also add it to your walls. Fabric is one of the cheapest ways to dress up a space if you use it in a frame. Parts of a Thank You Note
Though short and sweet, there are a few key parts of a thank you note:
Combined, these elements help you get not only your message across, but also the sentiment.
The greeting should include your recipient’s name and some form of welcome. It doesn’t have to be overly formal, especially if it’s to a person you know well.
In the body, thank the person and add any specific details about why you’re sending the note, usually 3-4 sentences. Maybe you received a gift, or someone volunteered to help you, for example. Whatever is it, this is your chance to make your note truly personal.
Close with your regards and name. Include a PS message at the end if you have something to share that doesn’t have to do with your thank you message.
Using the above outline, here are a few thank you note examples you can copy for your own usage.
Thank you so much for my/our birthday/graduation/wedding/engagement gift. I/we can’t wait to use it. I/we look forward to seeing you soon.
With love,

Hi [first name],
Just wanted to share my/our thanks for taking your time to help with [event details]. I/we enjoyed your company and appreciate all your hard work. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Many thanks,

Hi [first name],
I want to express just how much I appreciate all you do. Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. [Add some specific accomplishments]. Glad you’re part of this team.
Sincerely,

The stationery you use in your thank you note can make just as much of an impact as the message itself. Make your notes stand out with fun themes, like our USA state stationery or animal stationery. Shop our collection of artist-designed thank you notes and make a lasting impression!
So, what all can you do with stickers? I’ve got some inspiration for you:
Water Bottle Stickers
Make every bottle one of a kind and you never have to worry about reaching for the wrong one. Water bottles are one of my favorite things to decorate with stickers because they turn a boring bottle into something more personable. And with a dishwasher-safe decal, you never have to worry about it peeling, cracking, or fading.
Your Laptop
A colorful sticker can completely transform your laptop. Because so many laptops look alike, it’s an easy way to separate yours apart from your colleagues. Use it to hide the logo that’s usually in the center of every laptop or just reflect your personality.
Car windows
Stickers on your car windows is a step up from the traditional bumper sticker. They’re easier to apply and they don’t ruin your paint job. Our state decals are a fun addition to car windows because they can tell a story about your travels. Get one for every state you’ve visited, or just the one you live in.
Coolers
A day at the beach? The campsite? Your favorite sports team? Take your sticker habit with you anywhere you go when you turn your cooler into a sticker canvas. Never lose your cooler in a sea of lookalikes again.
Journals + Notebooks
If you run out of places to stick your stickers, just create your own sticker book! Fill the pages with stickers that mean something special to you and keep them safe forever. Neve worry about fading, peeling, or losing your stickers while you fuel your sticker cravings.

I told my husband that I really wanted to keep Caedon at home with me for 9 months, maybe a year, before placing him in daycare. This was my own personal decision – I am privileged enough to have the opportunity to work from home and to have the choice to send him to daycare. As an adoptee whom is now also an adoptive parent, and my utmost priority for the next several years is bonding and attaching with him.
I love being an entrepreneur, I love owning a small-business, I love the challenges it brings and how it forces me to be creative. I’ve told many women that I have such complete respect for stay-at-home moms --- but I am at my core an entrepreneur, a MOM entrepreneur. At 9 years old I decided I wanted to become either an architect or run an ad agency and have some big fancy corner office overlooking some city.
Being an entrepreneur makes me a better mom and being a mom makes me a better entrepreneur.
My enneagram type 3 wing 4 self got to work and read all the info I could find on being a work at home mom (WAHM). Blog after blog and all those please-don't-ever-read chat forums just made me feel anxious and depressed.
Some things I read:
“It’s not possible to work and take care of a baby!”
“Don’t do it! The worst!”
“Worst 3 months of my life!”
I don’t do negativity. I don’t EVER listen to folks that say <enter any task here> can’t be done and it’s the end of the world and <enter whatever here> you should never do it because <enter name of naysayer> couldn’t do it.
A negative fear based mindset will kill every goal/dream/task/achievement you have – why shall I think of this WAHM journey as any different? I won't. Nor will I listen to the negativity and critics --- goodbye!
I'm writing this blog for all the women like me that want encouragement & reality & positivity & refuse to fall into a fear-based negative mindset. I’m going to keep it 100% real and do my darnedest to update this blog weekly.
So how IS all the work at Amanda Klein Co. going? I had the biggest conference call of my career just a few hours before I left for the hospital – this is the reality of small-business, y’all. I’ve been working a little each day since we brought him home from the hospital. Marla and Jennifer were total rockstars and handled all the shipping while I was away. Me at home? I’m learning to master baby carrying while he’s napping (#iluvmybobawrapso) which gives me a wee bit of time to look at sales/future planning + forecasting/painting/customer service/2022 goals/marketing/andalltheotherthingsthathappen. I am taking 12/24/21 - 1/2/22 off to love and hold and just look into the eyes of our baby boy. And I am ecstatic about where Amanda Klein Co. is headed in 2022.
All of this might sound a little unconventional to some folks. But it’s our reality and our life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything – working for myself allows me to set my schedule around my family. The best and worst thing about entrepreneurship is that you control your own destiny. I’m choosing to believe that 2022 will be me at home with my son and working hard at creating this life I want to live and making a world a better place for him.
Someone asked me a couple of weeks ago about what my expectations were with having a newborn – after thinking about that question for a bit, I told them I honestly had no expectations. I truly didn’t. I knew that newborn life would be wonderful and hard all at the same time. And with just a few weeks in, it has been. But not having expectations has lead to a lot less stress than if I had expectations that I wasn't reaching — so that’s 100% how I’m going to approach being a WAHM. Yes, I have a 2022 business plan drafted with goals and dreams and all those things. I will work hard and be very intentional with my time, but above all I have a heart that wants to form a strong bond with my son. I am going into this journey with a healthy mindset of determination, ambition, lots of love, and zero expectations.

Week 1-ish-ish WAHM things I can’t currently live without:
Last Holiday season millions of USPS packages had significant transit delays and I do think this Holiday season will be similar or worse. I've shipped thousands of packages over the last year and a half, here's what I've learned:
USPS was experiencing staffing issues, we were in a pandemic, and there was a massive surplus of packages in the 2020 holiday season as folks weren't gathering in person. Regional USPS facilities were so packed with mail that they were having to process the "new" mail first just to get to "older" mail. Most regional hubs had truckloads upon truckloads of packages parked outside regional facilities -- many of these sat for several weeks before being touched. It was a perfect storm of a lot of things and I don't think anyone knew how to handle it.
From mid-November until mid-December, my evenings went like this: sipping a glass of red wine (or two), constantly checking tracking, scouring reddit for "insider" USPS hub information on backup estimates, and various variations of this email to my sweet customers: "I promise I shipped your package even though tracking isn't updating. I have no idea why it's still sitting at XXXXXXX facility. I am so sorry, I wish there was something else I could do -- I'll make sure to keep an eye on your tracking ... Thank you for supporting my small-business."
Please understand that I do believe USPS was doing all that they could and I hold no frustrations towards them. They were surviving. We're surviving. We're all recovering and figuring out this new journey. I will forever be grateful for USPS and the work they do. Many folks don't realize that many small-businesses would not be able to survive without the services USPS offers (more on that below).
Do I think that 2021 might be worse? I do. Staffing issues are still happening, transit delays have been present for much of this year, and Fed-Ex is now experiencing much of the same pain points.
If you're ordering online this year, there are thee ways to handle the holiday shipping cluster:
2: Order Early (i.e. NOW), Reset Your Expectations, or ship UPS
ORDER NOW: There is nothing wrong with having your holiday shopping wrapped up before Thanksgiving. And if you're shopping online, I would recommend it. Shipping delays aren't that much of an issues right now (as of 10/18/21), so you'll likely receive your gifts in a timely fashion. That being said: 2021 is not a year to procrastinate with any online holiday purchases.
At Amanda Klein Co. we're just going to go ahead and encourage early shopping: Our Black Friday Sale will be 10/29/21 - 11/1/21 with 15% Off Sitewide 🎉
RESET YOUR EXPECTATIONS: Can't order early? Ordered a last minute gift? Just be prepared that your gift might not arrive when you hoped. Almost all carriers are experiencing major delays, and once something is shipped the transit time is only controlled by the carrier.
SHIP UPS: UPS is consistently on-time and packages rarely arrive damaged. The truth is that UPS is often 2-3 times the cost of USPS or FedEx, but if you're in a time crunch -- it's worth it. At Amanda Klein Co., we offer a UPS shipping upgrade option for all of our orders.
I can't speak for the business practices of other small-businesses, but I can speak for mine. We're a team of three, and work very hard at keeping our order processing time as short as possible. Most of our packages ship within 1-4 business days. We have over 500 product variations in our lines, and trust me that it takes a lot of organization to keep that 1-4 business day turnaround rolling. But I am so proud of my team for making that happen: It's because we care.
And we care--a lot--with our shipping.
When you're a small-business that doesn't ship 25,000+ packages a month and have your own private UPS rep & access to major UPS shipping discounts ... you count your blessings for USPS and how they keep your business running.
One of the beautiful things about small-business is that you're directly supporting their family, and in return, many businesses take your happiness and experience to heart. I know I do, and I know many other small-business owners whom feel the same. We are so thankful for you and want you to be happy with your experience, so if it's not right -- just talk to us.
4: We're humans with beating hearts, too. So don't be a jerk.
I heard recently that consumers were way more likely to leave negative reviews or verbally bash small-business than larger box stores. That someone could have a horrible experience at a large fast food restaurant or mega box store, but they would continually give them their business regardless. But if someone had a similar experience at a small-business, they were much less likely to give them second chances. The rational was because they knew box stores didn't care, but small-businesses did.
Please, be kind. Take a deep breath. Remember that we're all human and 99.9% of the time a small-business really wants to help answer questions or wrong a right.
And for those of us on the receiving end (looking at you: all you fellow customer service, folks!), remind yourself that hurt people hurt people. It's not you, it's them. Believe me, as a business owner who has been the recipient of hurtful words from trolls, this is way easier said than done.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts from a small-business perspective. Order your gifts early or go shop your local brick & mortar. But above all: Practice kindness and love -- isn't that the meaning of the holiday season, anyway?

Many of my customers purchase multiple prints as they want to create a visual to remind them of their family story: to tell the story of where they have lived, to tell the story of where they and their children currently live, to tell the story of their journey as a military family, or to tell the story of their favorite family vacations. For many various reasons, hearing folks use this artwork to display special memories in their home makes us all gratefully tearful.
One of the most common questions I receive is how to create a gallery wall, especially when some of the states are oriented vertically and others horizontally. Don't let different orientations shy you away: mixing up orientation just makes things visually appealing!
We want everyone to love their space so we created a list of common questions, a step by step guide, as well as a downloadable Gallery Wall Idea template.
- Can I mix and match vertical and horizontal prints? And different sizes? YES! We actually encourage that! 25 of our USA Prints & Territories are horizontal and 27 are vertical ... if you're someone who has lived in various states, you'll probably have a mixture of the two! Never let this keep you from creating your dream wall, we promise it makes things more interesting (don't believe us? Scroll up and check out the photo! We also offer all states as a 5" x 7", 8" x 10" and 11" x 14".
- Where should I put a gallery wall in my home? We usually recommend and area that has a decent amount of space like over a bed, over a buffet or behind a dining room table, or a large blank wall, etc.
- But what about a small space --- like a bathroom wall? Many many folks purchase the 5" x 7" prints for just that (that's actually why we added that size!).
- What frames should I use? This is probably my most asked question and my answer is always the same: whatever frame YOU love, whatever frame will make YOU happy. Here's the thing: all of our fine art prints (animals/states/floral) are colorful, you can easily use black, white, gold, silver, natural wood, add a mat, add a color mat, or use no mat at all! I am such a fan of folks creating a space that makes them happy and brings them peace, and this often means going with what YOU love.
Do not shy away from using different forms of artwork -- state prints can be paired with the print of a painting you love, a greeting card that meant so much to you, concert tickets or a special photo or even a beautiful fabric cutout. Although most of my customers frame just the states together, please know that framing various forms of artwork together is equally beautiful!
There are so many frame choices! The truth is that I have seen folks frame my prints a hundred different ways, and you know what? I love all of them. Much like your choices in artwork that you hang in your home, the frames are personal choices as well. What style do you typically gravitate towards when decorating your space? Minimalist? Ornate? Colorful? Modern? Frame your art in your style. All of my work is colorful, so you can't go wrong with whatever frame and mat combo (or no mat!) you choose!
This can be fun -- do not let it intimidate you! We've included a downloadable PDF with various ideas - but do what you feel works best for YOU and your space!
PRO TIP: An easy way to get a real-life feel for how your new gallery wall will look in your space is to trace your framed print onto a large piece of paper or cardboard. Once your frame has been traced use scissors to cut out the outline on the paper then use painters tape to attach them to your wall in the exact spot you intend to hang the actual frame. I like to actually leave the paper or cardboard up for a few days to make sure I like the layout (always check the manufacturing info on the tape to make sure it will not damage your wall!).
Your artwork has been curated and framed, you've decided on a layout, and now it's time to hang your art and enjoy your newly decorated space! We would LOVE to see how you framed and arranged everything, so please share & tag us on Facebook or Instagram!

]]>To me, outstanding products are a combination of two things in particular: (1) The creativity and design that the “maker” puts into them (i.e. original artwork) and (2) The quality of machinery and materials used to reproduce said design (i.e. artwork reproduced as fine art prints).
Partnering with a manufacturer who is passionate about their quality of work is just as important as the quality of the original work you're providing the manufacturer.
High-quality products, products manufactured in ethical facilities, products produced with upmost care and love, a product based small-business --- 99.9% of the time products produced with these values will cost the consumer more than something they could buy at a large box store. Although I can’t speak for all small-businesses, I do know that when you buy from me you’re choosing: ethical manufacturing, supporting products made with love & care, helping fund mine and my husband’s adoption, our livelihood, job creation amongst my company (you’re helping provide jobs to two part-time employees as well as myself), and you’re helping fund jobs at the manufacturers that I use.
The statement “you vote with your dollar” is true.
My business would not be where it is today without these essential partnerships. So, here's my current manufacturer lineup, the STARS of this product-based-business -- and I can’t wait to add to this list oh so soon!
Printswell, Inc. produces the bulk of my products, and trying to keep my love and appreciation for them to a single paragraph is hard. They are a company built on quality and values, and wholeheartedly care about my products. They are ethical, loving, hard-working, and produce topnotch goods.
Amanda Klein Co. products produced by Printswell, Inc.: Fine Art Prints sizes 5” x 7”, 8” x 10”, 10” x 10” and 11” x 14” // All printed stationery notecards and greeting cards // Packaging stickers placed on notecard boxes and fine art prints.
Stationery HQ is an excellent digital printing manufacturer out of California. Although they only produce my 16” x 20” Fine Art Prints for me, they have so many awesome capabilities that I can’t wait to one day try (like wrapping paper! What?!?!).

It took me almost a year to find Heinrich, and I’m so glad I did! Finding quality of envelopes that were manufactured in the USA was not easy and something I experienced a lot of anxiety over. Before finding Heinrich, I liked the envelopes I was using but they just weren’t up to the quality I wanted for my customers. I started ordering from Heinrich last fall, and I’m not sure I’ll ever order from any other envelope manufacturer. When I place an order with Heinrich my envelopes are made to order for my customers: the envelopes go from press, to packaging for shipping, and then are driven (via freight) from Minneapolis, MN to Birmingham, AL. How could I ask for more?

First off: SHOUT OUT to this company being a Woman Owned Enterprise! Second: They’re amazing! It took me a year and a half to find this company, and I’m so glad that I did. Manufacturers Packaging Services provides all of my shipping materials and supplies -- anything from mailers and boxes to bubble wrap to tissue paper (some of which is produced in the state of Alabama!). They have excellent customer service, fair pricing, and I’m so thankful that I get to use their products for all my shipping needs.

I’ve been using ClearBags for several years for various items, but have only started using them professionally within the last two years. Handsdown, their backing board, cellophane sleeves and plastic notecard boxes are excellent in quality. I have been very pleased with how protected they keep my fine art prints & stationery.

Sticker Mule is a great company that has rapidly grown over the last few years. I have tried several manufacturers for my vinyl decals and just haven’t found the quality and care from others like I have from Sticker Mule.

I can’t end my manufacturers list without giving credit to USPS, UPS, FedEx and Holland Freight. Since 90% of my business is e-commerce, my business would be almost non-existent without these companies. I do feel it’s okay to acknowledge that there have been “pain points” over the last year with two of the carriers mentioned above (see this post, here!), but I do believe that just like the rest of us they’re trying to survive and move forward. I am hopeful that these ongoing transit/shipping issues will soon be resolved (please oh please oh please).
Each time I drop off packages at USPS I make sure to tell them how much I appreciate them -- so many small-businesses across the USA rely on USPS and the work that they do. And for that, I couldn’t be more thankful.

The Alabama state artwork, my first state print, was made entirely on a “hunch”.
Me: *driving in the car*
Hunch: You need to make an Alabama original featuring wildflowers found growing throughout the state.
Me: How do I do that?
Hunch: You’ll figure it out.
I had just started my business and my art supplies were quite limited: I had a pad of watercolor board, a small palette of watercolors, and calligraphy pens that were my mom’s when she was my age. (Note: My supply list has grown a lot since then, but I still used those same exact supplies with all my location prints so that they’ll have a similar look.)
My dad retired from being a botany professor several years ago, and gave me all of his old wildflower identification books as he knew how much I loved scientific illustration. I used those for research, wanting to find plants that grew in the Alabama area.
I have a lot of folks ask why I selected “XXXX” flower for “XXXX” state: often times it’s because I have a personal connection to that plant, sometimes the plant is just a big part of a state that I have to use it, and other times it’s because the plant is the perfect composition to whatever state I’m working on (i.e. Maryland -- a beautifully shaped state that only several “plants” would be able to “fit” and make the composition work). It’s not as easy as “just pick and flower and paint it”.
(Note: picture above is the pasture where dandelions & grape hyacinths, both featured in the Alabama piece, grew in abundance)
I do not remember how long it took me to complete the original Alabama artwork. To date, the artwork for each state takes around 6-8 hours to complete. With the print production process taking much longer (usually several weeks).
What happened next was truly a life changer.
I had finished the Alabama artwork and wanted to add my signature and sell it as an original. As I went to sign the piece a massive drop of ink hit just outside of my artwork -- too close to the art to cover with a mat and too large to cover up with any sort of medium (believe me, I tried). I had a choice: add the artwork to my pile of unsellable pieces or make the best of it.
After making my first post, the Alabama print sold out 3 times in 72 hours.
Within days I had requests pouring in from friends and family and folks whom I’ve never met for me to create other states.
I created a website. I opened an Etsy shop. And in 2020, major surgery and the pandemic happened within a week of each other -- so I embraced being “high risk” and dedicated my quarantine to finishing all 50 states.
In March 2020 I received my first online sale for 2 sets of Alabama notecards. I honestly thought someone had made a mistake and accidentally ordered from me. Joke was on me, at that point I had no idea how to: package product for shipping or actually ship a product to an actual person.
My oh my how much I’ve learned and grown.
Folks began requesting state notecards, and I began taking mini “leaps of faith” with ordering larger inventory. Our house and garage have turned into a shipping center & warehouse. We’re hoping to move to our own space in January 2022. Pictured below: just another freight delivery of 50,000 envelopes sitting in the middle of my garage. My mind truly has a hard time grasping all that has happened over the last year. It feels like ages ago and then just like yesterday. That drop of ink has paid for some very expensive surgeries, it’s helping fund our adoption, it has fulfilled this dream of mine to own my own company, it has brought more joy into my life than I’ve ever had before, and this art is serving as an avenue for me to love & serve other people.
I am so humbled by it all and so thankful.
I have ideas of where I want this art journey to take me and my family, but I do welcome the “ink drops” that will surely throw me off course: life will always make you stronger & better if you let it. I do know that I have big dreams and plans for this business, I know my purpose, and I know how I want this business to serve others.
xoxo,
Amanda
P.S. The photo below was our Christmas season 2020 reality. I was working from 7AM - ????. I had friends & family volunteering their own time just to help me through. Drew would join me after he got home from his job. There were many late nights. I was constantly checking USPS tracking (because DANG those transit delays!). I was sleep deprived and a wee bit stressed. But we had a whole lot of thanksgiving + happiness. I took this photo as I always wanted to remember this moment, no matter how much we may grow:
This business was born from struggles. And after I moved myself into a better physical & mental "space" I made the decision to never hide from my past, but to share it with others in the hopes it could somehow help.
I was born an artist. One of my first words was "me" and that was in reference to a pencil---I started drawing at a very early age and now, at 39, I've only stopped once. Art got me through being bullied as a teenager, illness, a toxic relationship, and a lot of trauma.
In January 2018 I came down with the flu and never really felt the same for months afterwards. In September of that year I went from being physically active to confined to a bed within a matter of two weeks. We saw many specialists, had tests, procedures, the works. I started my period when I was 10 and it had always been intense and painful, but it magnified that September, leaving me with symptoms that lasted most of my cycle.
Very long medical story short: I was diagnosed with Epstein–Barr virus, the flu caused EBV to flair, which in turn caused endometriosis, among other things, to magnify within my body.
I have always been physically active and my work was something I cherished. When I got so sick that those two things weren’t an option, I slipped into a dark depression. One evening my husband sat down on the couch beside me and told me we needed to talk. He reminded me that I had always wanted the opportunity to start my own business, and with being more or less bedridden for months, I had nothing but time.
I knew my greatest talent was drawing, I knew people could sell their work online, I knew I could sit and create art and use my computer. So I did.
Eventually, we were told that I would need surgery. Our insurance was okay but would not cover the bulk of this surgery and we needed to stay in Atlanta for almost a week. So, I turned to my business to generate the needed funds. Thankfully, my Alabama Wild print went semi-viral that Fall and requests came pouring in for other states. In March 2020 I was able to have my first surgery for endometriosis excision.
During that surgery I was diagnosed with adenomyosis, to which the only “cure” is a hysterectomy. I felt better after my surgery, but was still not doing great, and made the very difficult decision to choose quality of life over being able to be pregnant and had a total hysterectomy in January 2021. That surgery changed my life and will forever be one of my greatest decisions.
Although I no longer had the option to be pregnant, I always knew that I wanted to be a mother. In the Spring of 2021, my husband and I decided to move forward with our adoption – which we knew would be very expensive. I had used my business to generate almost twenty thousand dollars for medical costs, and I knew if I worked hard enough I could do even more for our adoption costs. And let me tell you, there is no greater fire burning inside someone than a mama trying to get to her baby.
So here we are: the talent that I was born with was used to help heal me physically & mentally and brought us our child. This business has become one of my greatest blessings and my mission is for my artwork to bring healing to others.
I often have a hard time comprehending what Amanda Klein Co. has become. And truly, from the bottom of my heart, I am so thankful for every single one of my customers. I hope you can see the love and appreciation that I feel for you in the goods you receive and the work that I do.Wondering how to frame your new art print? What color frame to use? To mat or not to mat? Where should you even purchase a frame? Let's get some of those questions answered!
((And if you'd rather watch a video answering all your questions, just scroll to the bottom of this post.))
READY MADE FRAMES:
All of my prints are 5"x7", 8"x10", 11"x14" or 16"x20". These are standard print sizes, which means that you do not need to have these custom framed (unless, of course, that's your thing).
So, where can you buy a frame for my prints? Honestly, anywhere that sells frames! These are some of our go-to stores:
HOT TIP: If you find a frame that you love, but the mat is not cut to the size you need for your print, you can have a mat cut inexpensively at most large craft stores or a frame shop.
Question: But what color frame should I get?
Answer: My answer is always the same: What color works best in YOUR space? For my state prints, I usually recommend a black, white or a natural wood frame. I have also had multiple folks use a silver or gold frame, which looks absolutely beautiful.
Question: Should I add a mat?
Answer: This is your preference as they'll look great either way. I've had many customers mat a state print with a color found in the artwork itself -- it looks absolutely lovely and is a great way to add a bit of your decorating personality to your space. Adding a mat can also make your finished product appear larger for a larger space.
Question: What size print should I get?
Answer: How much wall space do you want to cover? Smaller area: get the 5"x7". Medium to large area: get the 8"x10" or 11"x14". If you're wanting to cover a really large space, then I recommend the 11" x 14" print with a 3-4" mat and a 1-2" frame. This will make the art look much larger and achieve the effect you're going for.
Question: Where did you find the frames in your pictures?
Answer: The birch frames are modeled after an Ikea frame (HOVSTA). The hanging frames are handmade by my husband and me, back in the day when we had time for that sort of thing!
Question: Can you just frame my print for me?
Answer: Not yet -- but one day. Being able to sell items framed is much more than just finding a manufacturer. It's also shipping and packaging + storage space (something we have very little of!).
